Postcards from Vacancy
Envisioning connection through the architecture of in-between places, Postcards from Vacancy examines how we occupy the spaces around us. It features contextual photography with lyrical analysis and invites personal memories to create layered stories about vacancies, public housing, and growth.
Images include archival photographs from the Department of Urban Renewal, stills from hip-hop music videos, and current-day urban scenes around Chicago.
The project was first imagined as part of WBL’s Towards 2040 Fellowship in April 2023. The project continued and was presented in collaboration with Kuumba Lynx at ‘We Fly’ exhibition in May 2023.
